Staying hydrated is essential for good health at every age, but it becomes even more important as we grow older. Because the sense of thirst often decreases with age, many older adults may not realize they need more fluids.
Proper hydration supports digestion, kidney function, joint health, energy levels, and brain function. It can also help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections, kidney stones, constipation, and confusion.
Tips for Staying Hydrated:
• Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Keep a water bottle or glass within easy reach.
• Enjoy hydrating foods such as watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, and soups.
• Add lemon, berries, or cucumber slices to water for extra flavor.
• Choose a variety of healthy beverages, including water, milk, and caffeine-free teas.
Watch for Signs of Dehydration:
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Dark yellow urine
Making hydration a daily habit can improve overall health, energy, and quality of life.
