Fairhaven Senior Services in Whitewater, Wis. has been a staple in the community for over 60 years. The multi-faceted facility comes alongside seniors of all ages, providing housing and health services along with on-site therapy with a goal of “adding life to years.” To further their mission, later this fall and in early 2025, Fairhaven will open three new floors for assisted living.
The extensive remodel project adds a total of 47 units among the second, third and fourth floors of the main building of the Fairhaven facility. On all three floors they knocked down walls, expanded community areas such as dining rooms and lounges and added spas. Most units will be one bedroom, but one two-bedroom and a few efficiency units will also be available. Each residence will have a walk-in kitchenette, living space, bedroom and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.
This remodel has been a long time coming. Fairhaven already incorporated many different options for housing including a number of senior apartment buildings, a separate building for memory care residents, and single-level duplexes about one mile away from the main campus. The assisted living expansion creates a bridge for those seniors needing a little more care than provided in the independent townhomes or apartments.
Community is very important at Fairhaven. Brian Robinson, Director of Marketing, Community Relations and Leisure Services, says, “We are a nonprofit, and we truly reinvest in the residents here.” They often host events and programming in their main building, so assisted living residents won’t have far to go–just an elevator ride down! With the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater close by, many students come to Fairhaven to complete community service hours for their degrees, providing opportunities for social and intergenerational interactions. In addition to individuals, they often have student groups, Monday Fairhaven Lecture Series, Greek Life and Athletic Teams coming over. Fairhaven owns two trishaw bikes and offers daily rides through their Cycling Without Age program. Robinson says, “We are nestled into a quiet community–where someone can go outside for a walk or with family and feel safe.”
Furniture will be delivered in early September for the third and fourth floors, and the staff at Fairhaven are hoping occupancy will follow shortly thereafter. “We are so excited to provide a space for some new faces to be a part of the Fairhaven family,” says Robinson. “We are continuing on with what Fairhaven has been doing since the 1960s: providing a safe, thriving environment for residents, and a comforting place for family members to send their loved ones.”
